Grow value where you live.
Good things really do happen on the home front. Choosing to install a green roof is one of the smartest improvements you can make to your home. You’re investing in a space that, over time, gives back and becomes even more rewarding. Homeowners may benefit from government grants, more comfortable homes due to improved insulations, and a reduction in household energy bills. With proper maintenance a green roof can outperform and outlast a conventional roof system.
We’re here to help you sow the right seeds, design with intention, and deliver a rooftop that delivers both environmental and economic value. Neighbourhood bragging rights are absolutely included.
Key elements to consider:
What surface are you greening? Whether it’s a carport, garage, home roof, or laneway suite, understanding the surface type informs the best approach.
Can the structure support the added weight? Green roofs are built in layers; each layer adds weight. A structural assessment determines the load your roof can safely carry.
How will the roof be maintained? Green roofs perform best with regular maintenance. Some irrigation will be required, and it can be as simple as access to a hose, especially during the establishment phase and dry periods.
What will your plant palette be? From low-profile and low-maintenance sedums to more intricate sprays that include grasses, perennials or shrubs, it’s the roofs’ structural capacity that will influence selections.
What kind of access is available for maintenance? Consider how you’ll reach the roof for aftercare and seasonal inspections. Safe, reliable access makes long-term stewardship easier.
Extends roof lifespan: when well maintained, the layers shield the roof membrane from UV rays, temperature and extreme weather events.
Energy savings: green roofs insulate in the winter and cool in the summer months, cutting energy consumption in all seasons.
Manages stormwater at source: by retaining and slowing runoff of rain and snowmelt it prevents flooding and polluting our waterways.
Supports native biodiversity: by providing habitats for native and endangered plant species, green roofs help rebuild ecosystems in dense urban areas where natural habitats can be scarce.
Enhances home value: improves curb appeal.
Will you supply the material, and I can install it myself?
We offer a turn-key solution and don’t offer DIY. Our teams are certified installers for all the leading green roof manufactures and complete extensive and on-going training to install their systems.
What kind of plants can we have on our green roof?
Just like a traditional garden it depends on a variety of conditions. The largest constraint is how much growing media your roof can hold. If you are limited to a lightweight system and the area gets lots of sun, then a blend of low growing sedum is your best bet. The deeper the growing media the more diverse your plant palate can be.
Does my green roof require irrigation?
Generally, yes, we recommend irrigation for green roofs. For extensive sedum green roofs, it’s not necessary, but it will keep your roof healthier and happier during the summer droughts. If you have more diverse plant selections in mind, then you will need an automatic irrigation system.
Can I maintain it myself?
We offer a 2-year maintenance plan as part of all our installations. This ensures the green roof gets off to a good start and stays that way. After that, we are always happy to continue providing maintenance service but if you choose to do it yourself, our experts can brief you on the specific needs for your roof.
Does my roof need a ladder or guard rails?
No, but we do need a safe way to access the roof. During installation, no one feels good wobbling up a ladder that extends 20 feet or more. Our team does site assessments as a first step in the construction process, securing the safest way to build and bring materials to the site. Our crews must have Working at Heights certification. We also need a safe way of maintaining the roof so often recommend roof anchors for example for our technician to tie off to.
